Epitalon is the Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly tetrapeptide synthesised by Vladimir Khavinson's group in St. Petersburg as the short-peptide representative of the bovine pineal gland extract Epithalamin. The synthesised tetrapeptide was proposed to carry the transcriptionally active fragment of Epithalamin into a controllable, single-molecule research tool — with claimed telomerase-activating activity in Khavinson-published cell culture work (somatic human fibroblast lineages, as well as rodent pineal-gland models).

In-Vitro Telomerase Signal Is the Flagship Claim
The most-cited Epitalon result is telomerase activation in cell-culture work from Khavinson and collaborators, observed in human somatic fibroblast lineages among other systems. Some independent senescence-marker corroboration exists. The compound remains outside the mainstream telomerase-biology canon of validated activators; researchers should frame it as within-framework evidence and design experiments accordingly.
Lineage Note
Tetrapeptide Representative of Epithalamin
Epithalamin was a bovine pineal extract used in Soviet/post-Soviet clinical research for decades. Epitalon is the synthesised short-peptide representative of that extract's proposed active fraction. The extract is not the same as the peptide — that lineage distinction matters when reading mixed literature.
